Where's the Love?

Posted by Patrice Smith

There is a Law that man should love his neighbor as himself. In a few hundred years it should be as natural to mankind as breathing or the upright gait; but if he does not learn it he must perish.           ~Alfred Adler
Sometimes I wonder where our compassion for each other is. It is very sad to know that in our world today we have people, human beings, that possess hatred and bitterness towards fellow human beings.
As the devastating earthquake in Haiti weighs heavily on my mind, I can't imagine how I could possibly feel anything other than heartbreak, sympathy, remorse, sadness and even guilt for all the lives lost. How can we feel nothing when we consider the families that have been uprooted, for all the children that have been left without parents or loved ones, for the unborn babies that have died in their mother's wombs, for the senseless dying...How is possible to feel...nothing, for these people? How is it possible to react to such a catastrophe so negatively? Let us be reminded that no man is more than, or less than any other, for man was made from dust, and to dust he will return.

So as a prelude whites must be made to realize that they are only human, not superior. Same with Blacks. They must be made to realize that they are also human, not inferior ~ Steven Biko

That was so well said...by both of you. As a Christian woman that lives by God's word, let me say that every Christian I know was appalled by P.Robertson's comments. We do not consider him the voice of Christianity in any way, shape, or form. We spent Tuesday night lifting this country and it's people up in prayer. Talking about how we could contribute, and really pondering the devastation on all levels. During our small group time we often share our daily requests, but this week our hearts were 100% on this devastation. So tragic, so sad, I have to believe that God will work on the hardened hearts of these men. Holly

Thanks for all the replies. It is truly sad that we have people like this around us, and even more sad that there are people out there just like them (evidenced by their followers). let's continue to pray for Haiti, as they go through this rough patch.
